Great advertising map created in Mount Vernon by John F. Fairchild, Civil Engineer and Surveyor. The map itself is very detailed naming all streets and delineating Wards and Districts as well as the unincorporated portion of Pelham. The covers and both sides of the map are filled with dozens of period advertisements: Chester Hill Boarding and Livery Stable; Mendel Chocolates and Confections; Dr. J.F. Pausen, Dental Parlors; Burr Davis & Son, Undertakers and Liverymen; McCaffrey and Cullen, Contractors; Willow Brook Dairy; plus ads for lawyers, real estate, and more. A particularly interesting ad is for the Orient Motor Buckboard with a large photograph of the vehicle -- advertised as obtaining 30 miles per hour with its 4 horsepower engine and weight of 350 pounds. A wonderful time capsule of Mount Vernon. Second edition engraved by T.S. Strange. Pocket map folds into covers measuring 5.2 x 8.8".
