This very graphic and early thematic map focuses on volcanic activity. Varying shades of red indicate the force and frequency of earthquakes. Blue coloring in the ocean indicates the extent of reefs. Illustrations along the bottom depict the mountain ranges of the world in profile with the volcanoes shown in black. Engraved by E. Sandoz and J. Krumholz, and published by W. & A.K. Johnston.

Fine coloring on full sheet with original margins. Short tear along bottom fold line just entering map about 1", closed on verso with archival tape.
