This is one of two plans that Johannes Blaeu issued of Moscow. It is derived from surveys ordered by Boris Fyodorovich Godunov, Tsar of Muscovy until 1598. The bird's-eye plan shows the old city and the Kremlin, surrounded by the Kitay Grad (or fortified city). An extensive key flanks the plan and in the upper left corner is the Russian coat of arms with a double-headed eagle. The actual title is in elaborate Cyrillic lettering. This plan of Moscow is quite scarce, having only been issued in the 1662 edition of the Atlas Maior. Latin text on verso.
