This pair of unusual maps is from a rare 16th century Italian atlas of the 'Lafreri-School.' The majority of maps from this atlas illustrate the Siege of Vienna in 1566 and the theatre of war in the Mediterranean between Venice and the Turkish Empire from 1570-1573. These maps provide detailed views of the important Balearic Islands. The cities and topography are graphically presented and ships sail in the stipple engraved sea.
