This great astronomical chart portrays the motions of the planets according to the Copernican theory of the solar system. The inset at the bottom shows the scale of the solar system compared with the Hugenian estimate of the distance between the Sun and Sirius. The female representation of Terra is depicted surrounded by putti representing the stars. This plate was first published in Homann’s Atlas von hundert Charten (1712), Grossen Atlas (1716) and Atlas Coelestis (1742). Read more about Doppelmayr's life and accomplishments here.
