This superb small map is based on Delisle's map of Mississippi and Louisiana. It is a finely engraved and detailed map of French Louisiana that extends from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico and from Nouveau Mexique to northern Florida. Many Indian place names, French and English forts, and early European settlements are shown. Scope extends west to show Santa Fe and S. Jerome de Taos. Decorated with a rococo-style title cartouche.

Very nice example with original full wash coloring and strong impression on thick hand laid paper. Trace of fold toning, a lazy crease along centerfold, and three small worm holes at bottom - two just touching neatline and one in border.
