Matched set of public survey maps from 1855, 1857, 1861 and 1862. Together they show the progress of public surveys in the state and provide a fascinating study of the survey progress, settlement and development over a seven-year period. The 1857 map includes a list of 43 private grants 'finally surveyed', with 411 listed on the 1861 map, and 430 named on the 1862 map. Each is signed on the plate by the Surveyor General. Sizes vary slightly. A terrific set for the California collector.
