This beautiful rendering illustrates the Kremlin - the heart of Moscow's inner walled fortress. A key provides information on 32 individual buildings and the extensive fortifications. The rivers and title also are named in Cyrillic Russian. The title cartouche is adorned with animal pelts and a unique compass rose orients the plan with west at top. This is one of two plans that Johannes Blaeu issued of Moscow. It is quite scarce, having only been issued in the 1662 edition of the Atlas Maior. Latin text on verso.
