Beautiful AAF escape chart, printed on synthetic silk cloth. These extremely detailed aeronautical charts were issued to pilots during WWII to be worn as neck kerchiefs under their flight suits as part of their survival gear in the event they were shot down. This is one of the most desirable of the series as it shows all of Japan in the last year of the war as the Allied Forces were preparing to invade Japan. Also shows part of Korea and French Indo-China. Always two sided, chart No. C-52 is "Japan and South China Seas". The other side is C-53 "East China Sea." Both are beautifully printed on a 1:4,000,000 scale. A most desirable WWII artifact, both sides dated February 1945. This map has been in the possession of the pilot's family since WWII.
