Truly gorgeous map based on Hondius' map of 1606, which itself derives from Ortelius' 1579 map. This is a decorative map of the western coastal regions of Mexico. Mexico City is situated on a large lake below the elaborate title cartouche of the Royal Spanish arms with male and female figures, one of whom holds a parrot. Several gold and silver mines are located in the central region. Two sailing ships and a compass rose adorn the Pacific, and putti and armadillos decorate the scale of miles cartouche

Beautiful color and a crisp engraving with a couple of spots of light foxing in the blank margins of the map.
