This is a wonderful, early eighteenth century edition of Jansson’s map of Egypt oriented with north to the right. Cairo is here named Alcairo, and the area surrounding the city is replete with detail, including a mention of the Pyramids. The detail becomes increasingly scarce as you go away from the city; instead there are charming camels, goats, horses, sheep and Nile crocodiles, one of whom is shown carrying her baby in her mouth. The cartouche features the Pyramids in the background and people of the region surrounding it.
