A striking, beautifully engraved map that features the Independent Republic of Texas. The northwest U.S./Canadian border reflects the American claims into present-day British Columbia. The huge unnamed Indian Territory extends north from Texas to the border with Canada, west to the Rocky Mountains and east to the large Wisconsin Territory. A block of four inset maps shows the vicinity of Washington (DC), Boston, New York and Philadelphia. Together they obscure the Southwest. A color legend identifies thirty-one states and territories. Extensive legend and three distance scales are at lower right. A rarely seen issue.
