This large and fully engraved double-page thematic chart shows the major rivers and mountains of the world. First issued by J.H. Colton in 1855, this is a later edition by his sons George Woolworth and Charles B. The map is divided diagonally into an interesting composition with the mountains at lower right and the rivers at upper left. A large number of rivers are named and drawn to indicate their relative lengths. The stylized rendering of the mountains is organized by continent and each is drawn to indicate their relative heights. Volcanoes are shown erupting with red fire and steam. Amongst the mountains are the major cities of the world located at their respective elevations. Has the distinctive, fine scroll style border.

Good impression and original hand coloring. A trace of uneven age toning in blank areas. Small stain across lower left tip just touching border, else very good.
