This is a beautifully engraved map, after Sanson, that details the history of the Israelites written by Carlo Sigonio. The location of the twelve tribes in the Holy Land are clearly shown. The large cartouche features a high priest and son of Israel with an angel to each side. Carlo Sigonio (1524-1584) was an Italian humanist from Modena and professor of history at Venice, Padua, and Bologna.

Lovely impression and color. The map has been remargined to the neatline at the top and bottom with Japanese tissue and appropriate paper.
