This book, with two volumes bound as one, contains 96 illustrations, in full and vivid color, on 24 plates. Each plate is followed by four pages of text describing the four flowers depicted. As beautiful and visually pleasing as these hand colored engravings are, they are also an important botanic resource as a small portion of each was left uncolored so that the viewer may more readily see the leaf and flower structure. Hardbound in marbled paper and brown leather with raised spine, tooling and gilt titiling. Marbled foredges. Contents: title page, Dedication, Preface, Index, 24 plates, 190 wood engravings within the 96 pages of text.
