This bird's-eye plan of the city of Beaune is from the rare French edition of Munster's Cosmography. The city is located in the heart of the Burgundy wine region, and this view graphically illustrates the surrounding vineyards. The town is well protected within high walls and enclosed in a moat. A key at left lists 22 important cites including the famous Le grand Hostel Dieu, one of the first charitable hospitals for the poor. French text on verso.
