Uncommon sea chart printed on two joined sheets showing a portion of the African coastline from Accra to Lagos and just past Benin City to the Niger Delta, inset at the bottom with two coastal profiles. The left portion of the map includes a series of profiles of islands, including St. Helena, Ascension and Sao Tome. This very decorative map has an attractive, figurative cartouche with natives and a sleeping European, while at the bottom of the map a group of mermen attack a sea monster with tridents and swords as a group of putti atop the scale of miles cartouche look on. The map is further adorned with a perfect compass rose and a sailing ship.

Lovely color and impression on a double-thick sheet common for sea charts. There are a few light spots of foxing, otherwise the map is near fine.
