A group of 14 maps of this critical Civil War engagement that was prepared under the direction of the direction of Hon. Daniel S. Lamont, Secretary of War by the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Park Commission 1891-1901 and includes a narrative description of troop movements. These large, double-page maps each measure approximately 25" x 40". Each contains a detailed listing of troop units involved. Includes the Correction Sheet by H.V. Boynton, dated 31 Jan 1901. The lot includes:

1) Map of Chickamauga Park. Plate IVX. One small paper chip in margin, closed on verso with archival tape.
2) Military Map showing the Theater of Operations in the Tullahoma, Chickamauga and Chattanooga Campaigns. Plate I. The paper is a little more toned with some roughness to paper edge at bottom corners, well away from map.
3) Preliminary Movements, September 18th 1863. Map of the Battlefield of Chickamauga Plate II.

These maps detail the three-day long Battle of Chickamauga which marked the end of a Union offensive involving southern Tennessee and northwestern Georgia that was known as the Chickamauga Campaign. It was the most significant defeat to the Union Army during the Civil War. Lot of 14 large battle plan maps.

Condition: A+

Loose maps with back straps. All with pleasant and even age toning. Paper sound and supple, not as brittle as normally seen on these maps. Any maps not fine are noted in description.
