A pair of attractive and highly decorative steel engraved maps of the French Colonies in the West Indies. The first is rendered on a large flag or sail, all surrounded by beautifully engraved vignettes of exotic birds, barrels of tabac (tobacco), tropical plants and trees, and other important products of the colony. The second is a terrific map of the island group centering on Guadeloupe and Pointe-a-Pitre, with an inset of Anguilla and St. Martin. The surrounding vignettes depict history and commerce with a sugar mill, bales of cotton and a dramatic view of an earthquake in progress.
