A terrific view of French and American soldiers, led by Le Comte d'Estaing, storming up the hill and attempting to overrun the English fortifications. D'Estaing's forces, though superior in number, managed only a draw. He returned to France in 1780 and devoted his efforts to politics. During the French revolution, he sided with the reformists, but remained loyal to the Royal Family. In 1793, he testified on behalf of Marie Antoinette, and was eventually convicted of being a Royalist and guillotined. Drawn by Martinet, engraved by Gossard.
