This plan illustrates three large fortifications that were designed by the great military engineer, the Marquis de Vauban in and around Dunquerque. It was engraved by Herman van Loon for Nicolas de Fer who held the title of Geographer at Louis XIV's court. De Fer was one of the most prolific publishers of plans of European cities in the late seventeenth century.
