Interesting plan of the now-destroyed Mont Royal Fortress in an elbow of the Moselle River, which was built in 1687 by Marquis Vauban, architect and master builder to Louis XIV. The complex, which was razed to the ground as early as 1698, served as a supply fort for the French troops on the Rhine front and in the Palatinate region. Nicolas de Fer held the title of Geographer at Louis XIV's court. He was one of the most prolific publishers of plans of European cities in the late seventeenth century.
