This late nineteenth century atlas features tipped in maps in full printed color and fancy borders. Contains 64 wax engraved maps, including 18 double-page maps. All states and territories are represented with 39 maps of U.S. interest. Other charts include Flags of the World, five thematic charts, types of the Races of Men, several pages of portraits, and a most interesting 'improvements of the century' page with numerous engravings showing the plow, sewing machine, electric light, wheat thrashing machine, a locomotive, etc. Title page, table of contents, list of the population of cities are missing. 10 pages of text. Hardbound in original brown cloth, with deluxe embossing and gilt titling with red fore edges.

Several pages missing from front signature. Several maps have fold separations with New Mexico/Arizona having the largest, at approx. 2". Private library stamp inside front cover. First page is dog-eared and torn with a plastic tape repair, and is also chipped and separated from binding with a plastic tape repair.
