This rare railroad-themed broadsheet is filled with strip maps that include fares and timetables. The strip maps are organized by route and name each station stop. Example routes are Boston to Worcester; Old Colony and Fall River Railroad; New Haven, Hartford and Springfield; Macon and Western Railroad, and many more. In all, over 200 column inches of maps. On the back page of the 4-page sheet is a map of the City of New York (11.75" x 14.5") that covers the city from the Battery to about 32nd Street, and includes a small portion of Brooklyn. The Railroad Gazette claimed to be "the first and only one of it's kind" in the world, and features dozens of fascinating advertisements for a wide variety of products and services. This issue, published by Solon Horn, 126 Nassau Street, is Volume I, No. 8, dated April 7, 1849.
