A crisply engraved pair of views describing Martinique ports.
Le Cul-de-Sac dans l'Isle de la Martinique Vu du Mouillage. is a beautifully engraved view showing the harbor with a tremendous amount of naval activity with longboats shuttling men and supplies across the harbor, and a ship that has keeled over and is burning. A fort occupies the hilltop beyond the harbor. The fancy title is decorated with a vignette of the French crown and shield flanked on both sides by banners and assorted local produce.
Le Fort Royal dans l'Isle de la Martinique Vu du Mouillage shows several large ships in the port with other, smaller vessels navigating the harbor. The fancy title is decorated with a vignette of the French crown and shield flanked on both sides by banners and assorted local produce.
Both views were beautifully engraved by Nicolas-Marie Ozanne (1728-1811), a well-known 18th century French engraver.
