This charming miniature map of Iceland is derived from Mercator's important folio map, similar to that of Ortelius, and is based on the same source - that of Bishop Gudbrandur Thorláksson. The island is depicted with its vast mountains, glaciers and fiords and includes fairly well-located settlements, many places of interest and the volcanic eruption of Hekla. The rocky, small island of Grimsey is noted just above Iceland. The map is decorated with moiré-patterned seas and a strapwork title cartouche at lower right. Latin text on verso.
