Stunning map of Provence filled with boldly engraved detail. The coastal area from the mouth of the Rhone along to Marseille and Monaco is clearly described, as is the country including Avignon and the route of the Durance River. Two extravagant cartouches balance the bottom: the one on the left features the title and the coats of arms of the region, with Hercules and a Roman soldier; the one on the right features a landscape showing Justice directing avenging angels, including the Angel of Death above a field scattered with the dead, while Gaia weeps over the sad scene.
