An uncommon map of the Iberian Peninsula filled with delicately engraved detail, based on Sanson who is credited in the title cartouche. The seas are teeming with sea monsters and ships, and the map is very decorative. Engraved by Francis Lamb.
Richard Blome was a prolific publisher of cartographic and heraldic material who utilized the subscription method to finance his ventures. By paying in advance a subscriber was rewarded with a map being dedicated in his honor. Blome, took the practice to the extreme by selling the sponsorships yet again for subsequent editions. This map is dedicated to the Hon.ble Sr. Henry Goodricke of Ribston Parke in Yorkshire in an elaborate cartouche containing his family arms. Included with this map is an additional dedication to Mr. Nathaniel Herne of the City of London that has been trimmed from another example.
