Nice pair of maps of ancient and modern Germany providing an interesting comparison for the collector of German cartography.
1) Nova Totius Germaniae Descriptio is a detailed map of Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Austria. The map is decorated with a title cartouche featuring a cherub and an eagle, symbolizing the German Empire.
2) Populorum Germaniae Inter Rhenum et Albium Descriptio… is two maps, on one sheet, covering the same area (nearly all of present day Germany). The map shows subtle differences in the political boundaries and place names during the Roman period, under the administration of Caesar and Trajan.
