This attractive group of prints and diagrams describes many of the principles of Astronomy. The plates show constellations, a study of the comet of 1680, the zodiac, and various scientific instruments. They are from Diderot's famous Encyclopediae, supplement or other 18th century encyclopedias.Titles and condition of the plates are as follows:
1) Astronomie. Suppl. Pl. 1. engraved by Benard (8 x 12.2"). Edges a bit chipped, dampstaining and toning in margins.
2) Astronomie. Suppl. Pl. 3. engraved by Benard (8 x 12.5"). Edges a bit chipped, dampstaining and toning in margins and a short edge tear.
3) Astronomie. Pl. VII. (8 x 12.8"). Some soiling and narrow left margin.
4) Astronomie Inst. Bib., excudit. (5.5 x 8.5"). Crisp impression on bright paper.
5) Le Commencement et la Fin des Crepuscules. Tom. IV. Pag. 49. engraved by P. Bourgoin (6.4 x 5.5"). Edges toned and a bit soiled.
6) Astronomie Instrumens, Quart de Cercle Mural en Perspective et Developement du Contrepoid de la Lunette. Pl. X. (8 x 12.1"). A couple small spots, mostly in margins.
7) Astronomie Instrumens. Quart de Cercle Mural; Machine pour en dresser la Limbe &. Pl. XII. (8 x 12.3"). A few small, unobtrusive spots.
8) Astronomie Instrumens, Quart de Cercle Mobile. Pl. XIV. (8 x 12.2"). Crisp impression on bright paper.
9) Astronomie, Instrumens, Instrument des Passages en Perspective. Pl. XXII. (8 x 12.2"). Light, scattered foxing in margins.
