Important, early chart of the harbor shows Rio Janeiro in block plan form. All islands and coastal features with many soundings and anchorages are shown. Across from Rio at the mouth of the Guanabara Bay is a lake named as Lagoa de Pirate Ningo. Fine compass rose with fleur-de-lys and rhumb lines embellish this large copper engraved chart. The Neptune Orientale was one of the most significant hydrographical atlases of the eighteenth century.

A crisply engraved example with nice original outline color. The sheet is near fine save for some faint foxing, mostly confined to the margins.
