A pair of very charming early maps of eastern Europe. The first; Transilvania Moldavia Valachia Bulgaria &c 1687, by Robert Morden (5.2 x 4") appeared in Morden's rare Atlas Terrestris, first published in 1687. Among Morden's more interesting works was a series of miniature maps of the world, which appeared in both playing card format and in a series of atlases, including his Atlas Terrestris and Geography Antatomiz'd.
The second map; Danubius A Fonte Usque Alad Ostia 1720, by Christopher Weigel in Nuremberg (7 x 5.5") is on two panels with the eastern portion continuing on the lower panel and following the course of the Danube to the Black Sea. Along the way, it passes Ulm, Wein and Belgrade. A nice example of this early 18th century map that featuring a lovely title cartouche and full original hand color.
