This dramatic and beautiful chart of the southern sky is filled with the constellations of Orion, Gemini, Centaurus, the Phoenix and the Southern Cross and the Milky Way among others. It is centered on the ecliptic pole using a polar equidistant projection with geocentric orientation. It includes the non-Ptolemaic constellations: La Colombe, La Cruzero and the 12 of Keyser & Houtman. The four corners are filled with descriptive text of the movement of the stars. The map was engraved by Herman van Loon, and the astronomical information was taken from the observations of Philippe de la Hire.
