This first edition by D. L. Thornbury contains a pair of uncolored, engraved maps and is illustrated with fourteen black and white photographs, each with a romantic and inspiring caption. The large double-page photogravure of the Redwood's is a beautiful art photograph. Frontis map of California. Only 2000 copies of this edition were printed. The passages in this example include descriptions of the author's first automobile trip through the area, the prices of farmland and how much profit a dairy farmer can expect to make, and the events leading up to the expulsion of the Chinese population in 1885. Delmar L. Thornbury was the Principal of the Fortuna School in 1905, and later served as City superintendent of Eureka Schools from 1906 to 1911. Complete. 8vo.
