Detailed map showing the city divided into 12 districts bound into the back of this fifth edition of Griffin's San Francisco Official Street and House Number Directory Compiled from the Latest Official Data.... This 146 page booklet was intended for use as a guide to street numbering during the reconstruction of the city after the great earthquake in 1906. The guide gives instructions for the application process to get multiple addresses for apartment buildings, where to place the numbers, etc. The "method and form of numbering" is in accordance to "Ordinance No. 31, approved by the Mayor on July 5, 1906." There is an additional eight-page supplement bound in at front that lists present and former names for hundreds of streets. Booklet measures 3.5 x 6.8". Complete. Softbound in original red paper covers with black printed title. An uncommon San Francisco Fire related work.

The map is printed on banknote paper and is remarkably sound. Text pages very good with some toning at the edges. Covers near fine with previous owner's name barely visible in pencil at top.
