Covering the section of Texas from the Red River to the Rio Grande, this geological map (22.5 x 9.8") and accompanying profile (38.5 x 9") show the "Route explored by Capt. Jon. Pope Corps of Topl. Engrs. Near the 32nd Parallel of North Latitude." Both are "Prepared in the Office of Pacific Rail Road Exploration & Survey, War Department." The colorful map details the countryside in a band along Capt. Pope's route from Fort Towson, Oklahoma, to El Paso and Dona Anna on the Rio Grande. Five geological types are delineated on both through hand coloring. Hydrology of the area is well developed. Details include forts, several towns, and the emigrant crossing on the Pecos River.
