This decorative map of South America extends to include Central America and the bottom of the island of California. The graphic map locates the Jesuit missions throughout the region and illustrates the spread of the Catholic influence in the New World. The map is embellished with ships and fanciful sea monsters and a title cartouche featuring the Virgin Mary and a native chief.
