Two beautifully crafted leaves from this liturgical book that contained the rites for the performance of Episcopal functions. They are printed in red and black ink, in two columns on hand-laid paper. These leaves contain manuscript illuminated initials with gold leaf, four-line music and woodcuts. This is a superb example of the combination of the manuscript tradition with early printing techniques during this period of transition. Patriarch Luc Antonio, called The Coryphaeur, or leader of printers founded the highly regarded printing house of Giunta in 1482. After his death in 1537, the business was carried on by his descendants in Italy, France, and Spain, well into the 17th century.
