An attractive, small plan of the proposed community of Franklinville that is engraved by Russell, rather than the more common example with the imprint of Tanner. Franklinville was one of three planned settlements, including Lystra and Ohiopiomingo, designed by a group of speculators to encourage English immigration to Kentucky. Franklinville was to be located at the confluence of the North and Middle Forks of the Kentucky River in Mason County (now Lee County, just north of the present town of Beattyville). The town is classically laid out in neat squares, each to contain 16 lots that were to be sold from an office in London. Despite thoughtful planning Franklinville never made it off the promoters' drawing boards. Plans of Franklinville are uncommon.
