An interesting, early map of the developing Southwest just after the conclusion of the Mexican-American War. It shows an unusual configuration for the new state of Texas that joined the Union in 1845. Texas is shown with the western border going through Santa Fe with the northern border of the panhandle on the Arkansas River. The large territory of Upper or New California encompasses the remainder of the Southwest, save for a tiny strip of New Mexico Territory. Central America is included in an inset map at the bottom. Engraved by Sydney Hall.
