A nice matched set of charts detailing Martinique from Bellin's famous marine atlas.
1) Isle de la Martinique (13.7 x 8.6"). Engraved map of the island showing mountains, roads, towns, forts, anchorages and dozens of place names is decorated with a rococo-style cartouche and fleur-de-lys. It is identical to Bellin's earlier Carte de l' Isle de la Martinique. (B+).
2) Partie Septentrionale de la Martinique (14 x 8.5"). This chart shows the northern portion of the island in great detail and locates roads, mountains, roads & trails, forts, villages, watershed and more. Simple rococo-style title cartouche and rhumb lines with fleur-de-lys enhance the map. (B+)
3) Plan du Cul de Sac Royal de la Martinique (8.4 x 6.7"). The harbor with Ville du Fort Royal (Fort-de-France) is the important feature, but villages, soundings, anchorages, watershed, mountains and topographical information are also shown. The map is embellished with a compass rose on rhumb lines and a rococo-style title cartouche. (A)
4) Partie Meridionale de la Martinique (14 x 8.6"). The last chart in this lot details the southern portion of the island, locating roads, mountains, roads and trails, forts, villages, watershed and more. It is adorned with rococo-style title cartouche and rhumb lines with fleur-de-lys. (B+).
