This is a very handsome depiction of the North Rhein-Westphalia region centered roughly on Osnabrucke. The cartography is based on a manuscript map by Christian Sgroten made at the request of Philip II of Spain in 1565. The map is adorned with three superb strapwork cartouches. Spanish text on verso, with the page number 52, indicating that it is from a 1602 edition. The plate shows evidence of a crack in the lower left corner.
References: Van den Broecke #91.
Condition: B
The map has original color, which has oxidized, leading to some irregular toning and a couple verdigris cracks that are reinforced on the verso with archival tape. The wide original margins have a couple of short tears, not affecting the map.
