A good pair of maps of the Holy Land.
1) Carte de la Terre Sainte Divisee dans Toutes ses Parties Selon le Nombre des Tribus d' Israel ... is a detailed map of the Holy Land based on the cartography of Nicolas Sanson. The region is divided according to the territories allotted to the twelve tribes of Israel. Panels of French text listing the bishoprics of Palestine surround the map.
It is a black and white map by Henry Abraham Chatelain, circa 1719. The map is has some very faint toning on the centerfold. (19.1 x 15.1").
2) [Untitled - Holy Land] depicts the southern part of present-day Israel as it was divided between the Tribes of Israel, centered on Jerusalem. By Jean Lattre, circa 1765. The map has original color on a sheet with some minor toning. A sort marginal tear at lower right just touching the neatline is repaired with archival tape (19.4 x 13.5").
