Attractive map of the major city and port of Ambon on the island of the same name in the Moluccas Islands or Spice Islands. These islands were of tremendous importance for their production of nutmeg, cloves, fine woods, fruits, etc. The islands were long fought over by European powers, beginning with the Portuguese and notably back and forth between the British and Dutch. The Dutch were in control of the island at the time this map was made. A key at left labels 41 points of interest. A compass rose in the lower part of the map orients north to the bottom left.

A nice impression on a sheet with attractive later color. The wide original margins have some minor toning and chipping, well away from the map.
