This is an exquisite and detailed plan of Batavia (Jakarta), the Dutch capital in the East Indies. The plan is based on Clement de Jonghe's map of 1650 except for a modification of the coastline in front of the fortress. Dutch ships fill the harbor with native boats tending them. The plan depicts the city laid out in typical Dutch style with an extensive network of canals. It is supplemented with a view below the distance scale and a key listing 21 places. The title is contained is a banner beside the Dutch lion.
