This fine aquatint illustrates an important battle in the Napoleonic Wars. The British fleet under Rear-Admiral Horatio Nelson defeated a French fleet, stranding Napoleon's army in Egypt. The battle established British naval superiority and was an important contribution to the growing fame of Admiral Nelson. Drawn by Thomas Whitcombe, a leading maritime painter of the French Revolutionary Wars and Napoleonic Wars, and engraved by Bailey.
