The nomenclature on this map is interesting; San Francisco appears as Drakes Harbor, California is New Albion, Baja is California, Gulf of California is Vermillion Bay. Mexico appears as a province consisting of several political entities, including a "Mexico" and a city of Mexico. Panama is Terra Firma. The U.S. south of the Ohio River is labeled Carolina and Florida. Detail in South America includes political division, geographical features and locations of tribal groups. There is little information in Africa. The delicately engraved title cartouche indicates Kitchin is the Hydrographer to his Majesty.
