This is a nice example of the pocket edition of the 1849 Almanac with a "Map of the Vicinity of Boston" (11.3 x9.3") bound at the front. The map extends westward to include Saxonville and north into Salem Harbor. It is detailed with mills, roads, and villages, and historical battles are located. Bound in rust-red cloth boards with gilt stamped title and vignette of the city. The 216 pages are filled with information on various aspects of Boston, each with an engraved illustration. Interesting advertisements appear on the last several pages of text plus the inside end papers, front and back. Created by S. N. Dickinson and published by B. B. Mussey.
