This is a very attractive bird's-eye plan of the fortification at Bethune and the surrounding countryside. The map illustrates an important battle in the War of Spanish Succession when the city was besieged in the summer of 1710. A decorative title cartouche, legend and a compass rose are at bottom right. Another title (Plan of Bethune) is in the bottom margin. Engraved by J. Basire.
