This is a great lot of some of the finest costumes we've seen. The Ackermann's Repository of the Arts is less flashy than other fashion magazines; these are very well rendered in an understated style which portrays the beauty of the costume in natural, organic fashion. Rudolph Ackermann published the Repository of Arts between 1809 and 1827. These copper engravings are variously dated 1809, 1811, 1813, 1817, and 1825. Each plate is unique but several share the same title: Opera Dress; Dinner Dress; Evening Dress; Morning Dress; Carriage Dress; Morning Costume; and Parisian Opera Dress.
